- Brush/Comb your hair regularly before going to bed each night.
- Even the way you sleep can affect your hair. Restless sleepers may actually be breaking hair as they sleep. If you're a restless sleeper, try a satin pillowcase so that the hair glides when you move in your sleep. On regular cotton cases hair can break.
- Putting hair up to sleep is also helpful. Hair should be put in a ponytail on top of the head. Always use rubber bands that are wrapped in cloth. Never use a plain rubber band on your hair as it can pull and damage hair considerably.
- On waking up, use the back of your hand or run fingers through hair to remove snarls and tangles.
- Accept your hair for what it is. If your hair is thin, wavy, curly or stick straight, try to accept that and not torture it by using strong chemicals that may damage it just to straighten it or curl it. If you decide that you want your hair to be different, make the changes as kindly as possible to your hair. Condition your hair before you straighten or perm it and make sure that you use the best products and get the best advice for your hair.
- Maintain your hair with consistency. Depending on the length and style, have it trimmed appropriately. If you wear your hair short, have the style refreshed every 3-4 weeks. If you are growing your hair longer, have it trimmed every 6-8 weeks to remove split ends.
- Choose healthy habits for your hair. Any habits that damage your body also damage your hair. Exercise, eat well and avoid smoking and alcohol, or at least cut back. Your hair is just one part of the holistic you.
- Pamper your hair at least once a week. Give yourself a relaxing scalp massage or apply a special deep conditioning pack. Do something for your hair that makes it feel special. Your hair will respond in kind.
- Brush only when hair is dry. Hair is weakest when it is wet and brushing can easily damage it. Even when hair is dry always comb before brushing, with a wide-tooth comb. Carefully work from the ends in a downward direction only. Avoid pulling back your hair tightly.
- If your hair is dry and brittle, wet hair, then coat with a light conditioner before shampooing. This helps protect the hair strand. Then begin shampoo by removing dirt through gentle mild shampoo - Trichup Shampoo / Shyamla Herbal Shampoo designed to clean the hair without stripping away its natural oils. Massage your head to increase the blood supply to the scalp and roots
- Stimulate circulation by massaging your head with oil to which some vitamin E has been added. This will make hair soft and silky.
- Never wash your hair with very hot or very cold water.
- Restrict blow-drying your hair. The process of blow-drying is harsh on hair as it robs it of moisture. Air-dry whenever possible. Always hold hair dryer away from your hair. Direct air from the hair dryer down hair shaft and not directly into the roots and keep it moving.
- Before going out to the beach or pool, comb conditioner. This helps to protect hair from the sun, chlorine, salt water, and from the sun's heat, and serves as a deep conditioning treatment. Wear a hat, cap or scarf if you want to protect hair from over-exposure to the sun, salt or chlorinated water, wind and air pollution.
- Stress can cause hair loss, so try to be relaxed.
- Eat food that are rich in vitamin B, C and E. Add Iron, Minerals in the natural form in your diet. This will be good for your hair. Calcium supplement or milk is also beneficial. If your hair is oily, cut down fried food and fat. Drink plenty of water.
- Knowledge is power. Learn as much as you can about your hair through books, magazines, websites etc. Pay close attention to your hair and listen to its needs. If you notice a change in texture or condition, take time to evaluate what may be happening and make adjustments. Your hair, like your body, sends you signals about what it needs. Is it drier or oilier or frizzier? Is it breaking or falling out or acting unusual? Get to know your hair and understand what it needs.
- Invest in the best products for your hair. Everyone has a budget they must adhere to, but with the money you have, buy the very best you can for your hair.
